The 'Wilsford Penny-Farthing riders' have gone National

In the Saturday Telegraph (today), a letter has been published from Julian titled ‘Fans of the ordinary bicycle are riding high’ accompanied by a picture of the penny-farthing complete with saddle and bell made in Eton in the 1870’s. The caption reads: here in the Pewsey Vale, we frequently see an even older school of cyclist ; Father and Son getting their exercise on full-sized penny- farthings. No lycra to be seen on either of them.

Great job Julian

Two (!) Penny-Farthings

We had to blink as we were sure there was only one 1880 penny farthing in Wilsford; but thanks to our cycling spies, including a professional photographer, we understand there are at least two. Are there more we ask? Tim and Aubrey covered 19 miles on these fabulous machines today, in 1hr 50 minutes - no gears or breaks and reaching 31mph down a certain hill - impressive! Thank you for wearing helmets.

Happy Easter

Wishing all residents of Wilsford and their families both near and far, a very Happy Easter. Many will not be with their loved ones but we hope technology will enable you to be in touch for some remote sharing of Easter Eggs and Happy Times.

May we also wish EVERYONE in the wider community a Happy and Safe Easter with a huge THANK YOU TO ALL those who are working to support this global emergency.

The Bees

Dr. Mark Fife, our fantastic Wilsford Bee Keeper and producer of Henge Honey, shares his worker bees busy creating. Wilsford gardens are full of bee loving plants to help Mark in his quest to produce the best honey. Henge Honey has the most beautiful flavour, both set and runny. Local honey is so good for us, if you suffer from hay fever - try a spoonful a day. Available at the Upavon Store and Planks Farm Shop.

Snowdrops

Our snowdrop planting together with the Marden Village team on a cold winters day in 2018, is at last showing the fruits of our labours on the Millennium Path, as they push their heads above the grasses
